Rychilla is a kingdom which runs on elemental magic. Firekind and waterkind runes power steam engines, airkind magic is used to lift airships, and groundkind spells are used in construction. Within the towns, humans and fairies live and work in harmony, side-by-side. Most of the time. A treaty between the two races ensure the kingdom remains at peace. But there are those, both Fairy and Rychillan, whose greed and desires drive them to violate both this and other laws. Usually, the Town Guard and Forest Protectors can handle these cases. In some instances, however, the truth is more nebulous.

This is where Yaetherim comes in. Originally a Protector, that purpose was stolen from him. Now he offers his investigative services for hire to both Fairies and Rychillans in the town of Alkentoft. Aided by an enthusiastic Arch-Mechanic, a melancholy messenger fairy and his allies amongst the Town Guard and Protectors, he hunts down the truth on behalf of his clients. These stories follow his more notable cases, as well as some involving his friends and allies.
